BY WEDNESDAY Dell’s Windows Phone 7 handset, the Venue Pro will be shipping to customers in the UK, according to various resellers.
The much-delayed slider handset is priced from about £450 to just over £500 on various websites for a SIM free phone. The phone was originally to have arrived in the UK in early November last year and was available for pre-order at Amazon in October for £499. As well as that delay, Dell had to deal with a battery mislabeling problem soon after the handset was launched in the US.
Despite the fact that the phone is finally about to arrive, no network has said it will provide the Venue Pro. The Venue Pro has a 4.1-inch Amoled display made of Gorilla Glass, a full Office Mobile suite pre-loaded, and like all the other Windows Phone 7 products it has a 1GHz processor, 8GB memory, 3G and WiFi connectivity. In a slightly wacky change from the norm, the handset has a portrait slide out Qwerty keyboard that emerges from the bottom of the phone.
The Venue Pro finally reaches UK shores after months of not too spectacular news about Windows Phone 7 sales. Microsoft’s claim of 2 million handsets shipped through December has not quashed questions about how many handsets have actually been sold.
