URGENT - DO IT QUICK - JAILBREAK OS 5.1.1

Post by jthspace » Sat May 26, 2012 3:16 pm

Jailbreak out for ipad and iphone on 5.1.1

Get 5.1.1 update quick before apple fix it.

After copious amounts of work and many sleepless nights Absinthe 2.0 is finally here to jailbreak your device. This release has been a large collaborative effort between Chronic-Dev Team and iPhone Dev Teams (Jailbreak Dream Team)

This jailbreak supports firmware 5.1.1 ONLY and is again one of the most easiest jailbreaks to use (so easy your grandma could do it ;D)

How To Use Absinthe 2

1. Make a backup of your device in iTunes by right clicking on your device name under the ‘Devices’ menu and click ‘Back Up’.

2. Once your backup is complete return to your device and go to Settings – General – Reset – Erase all Content and Settings. This will make the jailbreak process much faster.

3. Open Absinthe and be sure you are still connected via USB cable to your computer.

4. Click ‘Jailbreak’ and wait…. just be patient and do not disconnect your device.

5. Once jailbroken return to iTunes and restore your backup from earlier. Right click on your device name under the ‘Devices’ menu in the left panel of iTunes and click ‘Restore from Back Up…’ then select the latest backup you created before. (restoring this backup will return all the content previously on your device ie, apps, photos, etc.)

6. Thanks for using Absinthe, enjoy your jailbroken iDevice!

Thanks for that Jeff.

I assume if your device is already JB'd on 5.0.1 it should be returned to standard, download and install 5.1.1 and then do the JB again using Absinthe 2.0.1 ?

You have to upgrade to 5.1.1 so if you do that, then it will remove the previous jailbreak. My ipad was on 5.0.1 and jailbroken, I upgraded to 5.1.1 and then used Absinthe. I did not clear it down as mentioned above and it jailbroke O.K. - BUT it did undo all of my folders so the icons filled three pages instead of being in neat rows filed away.

I am about to do my iphone 4S, never jailbroken, so I will backup, wipe, jailbreak and restore and see what happens!

Well, like all best laid plans, the iphone went wrong and it hung and crashed. I had to get it into DFU recovery mode and update from an ipsw 5.1.1 download - easier and generally more successful than trying via iTunes.

Hint : In case you ever get iTunes error messages ALWAYS reboot your PC or laptop as this most often fixes the "unexpected error" that iTunes generates.

Anyway, I restored to a "new" phone, let iTunes reload all of the apps and then jailbroke. Worked perfectly.

I believe the reason that the original operation failed was that I had "lock" set (need a password). I think that unlocking the phone to let the jailbreak continue rebooting made it hang - So I would suggest that anyone else doing this disables security before attempting the jailbreak.
