Broken T40 in final drive

Post by maximus » Thu May 25, 2017 4:27 pm

I'm stumped.
Went to check and change the final drive oil the other day and found the bolt on top of the drive to be stuck. Couldn't budge it using the the T40 torx wrench from my Cruz tool roll. So I cleverly added a bit of leverage to the tool and "SNAP" . . . . off came the end of the Torx wrench, leaving it inside the bolt.

So I went for a ride.

But the problem remains. I can't figure out how to get the dam broken tool out of the bolt so I can get back to the original plan of changing the final drive oil. I've poked and prodded, drank beer while staring at it, cussed it, prayed for it... even tried to drill it but the bit just dances all over the hardened tool steel.

1 - any thoughts on how to proceed with the tool extraction? and ...
2 - should I apply a little heat to the final drive or filler bolt before I have a go at her again with a new T40 wrench?
