The Amazon Kindle Fire is set to finally go on sale in the UK in January, it has been claimed, with the tablet hitting the shelves at a considerably lower price than Apple’s all-conquering iPad.
Reports last month suggested the Kindle Fire could go on sale in the UK for as little as £100, with Amazon willing to sell the eagerly-awaited tablet for less than the rumoured cost price of around £125.
UK consumers have been left frustrated at Amazon’s decision to initially launch the Kindle Fire only in America, with analysts predicting the tablet will provide the first real challenge to the iPad when it eventually goes on sale.
As well as the rumoured UK launch of the Kindle Fire, Amazon is also reported to be planning to go head-to-head with Apple at some stage in the first half of next year with the release of a second version of the tablet, to coincide with the expected launch of the iPad 3.
Both new tablets are expected to come with larger, high-resolution screens.
